Summer residence of the Bankes Family

The hotel was originally built in the late nineteenth century as a summer residence for the Bankes Family.

As landed gentry, the family owned buildings in Studland as well as Corfe Castle and Kingston Lacey near Wimborne in Dorset.

In 1981, the family estate was bequeathed to the National Trust, and in 2014, the historic building was taken over by the Pig Hotel Group.
