‘Stay at home’ message getting through say Purbeck Police

Last weekend should have seen hundreds of tourists heading to Swanage for the Easter break, but the message to stay at home to prevent the spread of coronavirus, has been mainly heeded, according to Purbeck Police.

Patrols were out over the weekend, stopping people driving towards Swanage without a valid reason and today that has continued.

Purbeck Police said on its Facebook page:

“I have had a very busy shift patrolling as much of Purbeck as I can! To name a few, I have been to Swanage, Studland, Chaldon Herring, Wool, Upton, Bovington, Wareham, Arne and Lulworth. It was great to see many of the roads empty and people following the guidelines.

While patrolling in Swanage on Saturday 4th April 2020, police officers spotted an uninsured driver that should have stayed at home. Purbeck Police said that the driver had no insurance, so they seized the vehicle.

“Beautiful Dorset is temporarily closed”

In a multi-agency drive to stop tourists heading on holiday to the county, Dorset Council Tweeted:

“Beautiful Dorset is temporarily closed. If you have to drive to a beauty spot or beach for your daily exercise or to walk the dog, you should not be there. Please do this from your home.

Dr Karen Kirkham from the NHS Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group, added:

“I’m a GP in Dorset. I have a message for you from all the medical staff working around the clock to try and help you, and their message is clear. More than ever before, just please stay at home.”
