Days Park playground and outdoor gym get a boost

With indoor gyms closed, it’s timely that the outdoor gym at Days Park in Swanage is getting a facelift, alongside improvements to the children’s playground.

They’ll be two new pieces of exercise equipment, including a rowing machine, as well as the installation of a new path around the area, within the grounds of the north Swanage park.

The old rubber matting under the gym equipment is being replaced with an all-weather surface

Help prevent the area getting muddy

The new surface will be like the one used at Swanage’s Chadwick Playground on the Recreation Ground near the bandstand and will replace the old rubber mats, which should do a better job at preventing the area getting muddy.

The current playground equipment will be kept much the same, with the popular zip wire.

“Two new sets of swings”

Swanage Town Council’s operations manager, Gail Percival said:

“There were no swings in the playground, so we’re installing two new sets of swings – one for young children and the other for older kids. In addition, a new climbing frame is going in.

“We know the zip wire is a big attraction, so don’t worry, that’s definitely staying!”

A new area will accommodate the swings for older children and the railings will be moved, so the area is enclosed

The playground will be extended

To give the swings more space, the playground will be extended, so the railings will be moved to accommodate the new additions and to ensure that the area remains safely enclosed.

While the work takes place, the playground and outdoor gym are closed. The team, who also installed the Chadwick Playground, say they expect the work to take about three to four weeks, although that is weather dependent.
