New Swanage Town councillor named

The result of the by-election for the Swanage North Ward has been announced, with Conservative candidate John Bishop duly elected as Swanage Town Council’s newest councillor.

There were three candidates that stood for election and these are the full results:

John Bishop – Conservative – 913 votes
Philip Eades – Independent – 439 votes
George Holden – Labour – 419 votes

Turnout of 45.2 percent

In Swanage North ward, there were 3,978 people eligible to vote and of that 1,773 ballot papers were issued, making it a turnout of 45.2 percent of voters. Two ballot papers were rejected.

The Swanage by-election was one of six town council elections taking place in the Dorset Council area.

The votes were counted at a sports hall in Weymouth and the returning officer who announced the results was Matt Prosser, Chief Executive of Dorset Council.
