Non-uniform day raises £2,000 towards Swanage-based youth bus

Local charity #Willdoes says it’s delighted with the success of its first Dorset Schools non-uniform day and wishes to thank everyone who took part.

Schools across Dorset joined in the event on Friday 14th May 2021, including The Swanage School, The Purbeck School and Swanage Primary School.

The charity was set up to help support young people and raise awareness for their mental health. It was founded by Lesley Paddy, whose son Will sadly died at the age of 14 years.

A safe space for young people to meet

One of its major projects, which the money raised will go towards, is a double decker bus especially kitted out for young people. It will act as a mobile youth hub based in Swanage, aimed at providing a safe space for young people to meet and access information and support.

While the bus will be based in Swanage, the intention is for it to travel to surrounding communities and be available to local organisations who support young people.

“Thank you to all the schools that joined us”

The organisers said:

“Thank you to all the schools that joined us today for the Dorset Schools Non-uniform Day raising awareness for young people’s mental health. So far today we have raised £2000 towards the #Willdoes community bus project.”

Further donations are welcome and anyone who wishes to do so can contribute via the #Willdoes website
