Back in action – Rotary fete in Swanage to go ahead

After many months that saw events and fundraising put on hold due to Covid restrictions, Swanage and Purbeck Rotary has announced that it’s planning to hold its annual fete and craft fair this summer.

The event, which had to be cancelled last year, is scheduled to take place on Thursday 12th August 2021 at Sandpit Field in Swanage.

As Swanage Carnival is not taking place this year, the large marquee will not be available to use but Rotary is looking to provide a smaller covered area for catering and some crafts.

Stalls will be well-spaced

The organisers say that the stalls will be well-spaced and the event will be carefully planned to ensure all government Covid regulations are adhered to.

This follows the success of Rotary’s first fundraiser this year, a bric-a-brac stall at the four day May Market in Swanage over the recent bank holiday weekend. It raised over £1,000 and the money will go towards funding local projects.

One of the town’s annual traditional attractions

Chair of Rotary’s events committee John Thraves said:

“I’m delighted that – subject to any last-minute Covid restrictions – the fete will be able to go ahead. Unlike Swanage Carnival, Rotary has few upfront costs and if necessary, we could cancel without making a significant loss.

“The fete is one of the town’s annual traditional attractions, a real family event with something for everyone to enjoy. Stalls and games are mixed with a range of children’s rides. The dog show and children’s races will feature again this year.

“The delicious barbecue, cakes, sandwiches and tea provided by Rotary are always very popular and a welcome change from the normal fast food outlets! You can just relax with your food and enjoy the live entertainment.”
