Woman bitten by dog on Corfe to Swanage footpath

Purbeck Police are appealing for witnesses, especially a horse rider, who saw a dog bite a woman in her 60s on her back.

The incident occurred at around 10.15 am on Sunday 27th February 2022 on a footpath between Corfe Castle and Swanage.

Runner with a dog off the lead

Officers are continuing to investigate the reported dog bite incident and are asking for anyone with information to come forward.

Purbeck Police say that a woman aged in her 60s, was walking with her husband when they were approached by a runner with a dog off the lead. The dog jumped up and bit the woman on the back, causing a puncture wound.

Breed similar to a Ridgeback

The dog is described as a breed similar to a Ridgeback, but without the ridge and a larger head.

The man running with the dog is described as white, around 50 years old, five feet ten inches tall and with short sandy hair, clean shaven and with sticking out ears. He was wearing a bright blue running top and blue knee-length shorts.

“Particularly keen to speak to a woman who was riding a horse”

Police constable Jennie Sykes-Martin, of Dorset Police, said:

“We are continuing to investigate this incident and I would appeal for anyone with information to please contact us.

“I am particularly keen to speak to a woman who was riding a horse nearby who may have witnessed what happened.”
