Shopkeepers in Swanage in Dorset alerted the police after a man tried to con a sales assistant by claiming he hadn’t received the correct change.
According to Purbeck Police the attempted scam happened at a business in the High Street on bank holiday Monday 6th May 2024 at approximately 2.45 pm.
“Attempted to scam a shop assistant”
The police would now like anyone who knows the identification of the man, or who were also affected by the scam to contact them.
Purbeck Police reported:
“A white male, described in his 60’s, close shaven and grey hair. Wearing a blue top with a red zip and dark trousers, he attempted to scam a shop assistant by accusing them of short changing him.
“Fortunately CCTV was quickly reviewed and the male was seen to put the change back into his pocket. It is believed the same male then went on to try and scam other premises.”
It’s understood that the man also tried to trick shopkeepers in Wareham on the same bank holiday Monday.
