Many thanks to Gina Marshall, artist and owner of Purbeck New Wave Gallery.
Well-known for her distinctive paintings of the Dorset coastline, artist Gina Marshall opened the Purbeck New Wave Gallery in 2018 featuring her own work, alongside that of four other carefully selected artists.
Using coloured inks on watercolour paper, Gina’s semi-abstract artwork is instantly recognisable, featuring some very familiar stretches of the coastline like Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove, Kimmeridge and of course Swanage Bay itself.
“I liked linocuts and woodcuts, so I decided to put strong black lines in my paintings but using pens, rather than cutting into the lino.”

The other featured artists are:
- Gill Williams – a watercolour artist with a unique style expressed through lines and inspired by the local area.
- Nicky Stockley – a recent art post-graduate in illustration, who loves the fantastical, using gold leaf in her intricate drawings. She also designs beautiful and colourful scarves and cushions.
- Mary Clutterbuck – an artist who paints lively scenes of people around Swanage, working en Plein Air then finishing them in the gallery.
- Jeneta Bird – a painter influenced by her trips from Poole to Swanage, depicting the sea and sand of Studland in acrylics.
As well as original paintings, the gallery sells porcelain, china, scarves, jewellery and limited edition prints. Upstairs, the art room plays host to painting and drawing classes, as well as providing a home for the Isle of Purbeck Arts Club’s Thursday evening art group.
