Dorset Police update on assault outside Swanage bar

A witness to an assault outside the East Bar in Swanage, in which one man received a serious head injury and two others were injured, is being sought by Dorset Police.

Detectives have issued a CCTV image of the man that they believe is an important witness to the incident and who they would like to speak to.

Serious head injury

Dorset Police say that at around 12.36 am on Sunday 12th June 2022, officers were called to reports of an assault outside the East Bar in the High Street.

It was reported that three men had been assaulted. One of the men sustained a serious head injury and was taken to hospital for treatment. Another man sustained a facial injury and the third man sustained bruising to his side.

Four local men arrested

An investigation was launched by detectives from Dorset County CID and, following enquiries, four local men – aged 28, 30, 43 and 48 – were arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm.

The 43 year old was released without charge and the other men have been released on police bail while enquiries continue.

As part of ongoing enquiries, detectives have identified a potential witness who is believed to have important information.

Detective constable Rob Hoskins, of Dorset County CID, said:

“Our investigation into this incident remains ongoing and I have identified a man we are really keen to speak to. I would stress that this person is being treated as a witness only and I would ask him to please get in touch with us.”
